!Important! – Annual Beach Picnic POSTPONED to Sunday, 7/2

We’ve had a close eye on the weather forecasts this whole week – a large portion of the country is experiencing a lot of severe weather, and unfortunately it looks like those same weather systems will be heading into our area on Saturday.

We all know how hard it can be to make outdoor plans in the summertime whenever there are thunderstorms in the forecast, and somewhat maddening when the forecasters get it wrong.

Right now a large portion of our Saturday has a high percentage of storms from 11:00am right on through to midnight; we don’t want folks running for cover all day, safety of everyone is our highest concern.

Based on the significantly better forecast for Sunday (Sunny & 85 with almost no chance of rain), we’ve made the decision to move the picnic to Sunday.

Please let forward this message on to you family and friends who may be attending.

The cost is just $25 per family, or $10 per adult and $5 per child (12 and under). Payment is made at the beach on the day of the picnic.
Non-member guests are welcome but will need to pay separately.
We’ll also need some help with the cooking and serving – please help us out and volunteer to spend some time at the grills/food tables.  Just walk up and say you’re here to help!
Right now the weather looks great – any changes and we’ll notify you via email or check our Facebook page for any late-breaking news.

Kids Fishing Contest – Saturday, 7/1 11:00am

Once again, we’ll be having our Annual Kids Fishing Contest prior to the start of the picnic, for ages 4-12.
Whomever catches the largest fish overall gets the grand prize – a brand new rod & reel!
We will also have additional prized for those placing from 2nd through 5th place.
Tie-breakers will be determined by most number of fish caught -so don’t stop fishing until its over!
We’ll provide the bait in the form of earthworms and also PowerBait – contestants are free to use whatever they wish. Our fish here seem to be very fond of hot dogs 🙂
All contestants must be accompanied/supervised by an adult for the duration of the contest, and keep in mind that the fish must be landed by the kids, not the adults 🙂 .
Fishing will take place on the docks, since ‘fishing space’ may be somewhat limited, please arrive promptly.

ALL contestants who wet their lines will receive a small gift from the SHBC.

Anyone willing to help volunteer with help at this event would also be HUGELY appreciated – it gets a bit hectic
we can always use the help in measuring fish & baiting hooks!
With your participation, we hope to make this a bigger and better event every year!

Firewood Donations

SHBC Members,

One of our main highlights of our annual picnics each year is the bonfire – this would not be possible without the tireless efforts of our Trustees.

We’re in good shape for our Annual 4th Of July picnic on 7/1, but we’ll also need to start planning for our Pig Roast on Labor Day Weekend.

Special thanks to Don & Mary McCreedy for their firewood donation for our first party,  it is much appreciated!

If you or a neighbor has firewood on their property to donate for the cause, please contact Ted Olszowski @ 201-618-2624 – if you’re in the Sparta area we’ll come pick it up, but if you’re willing to drop some off at the lake you’re more than welcome to!
